Regime check first: VIX at 18 and rising 3.7% on the week, SPY barely positive, and the sector tape today is defensive-getting-sold (utilities, REITs, financials down hard) while tech leads. That's a mixed-to-deteriorating tape, not a clean risk-on grind. We're 14 days past FOMC and 35 days from the next one, so we're in the middle of the meeting cycle where vol can drift either way. Nothing here screams 'sell puts on a consumer discretionary name with a wounded fundamental story.' The setup itself is a non-starter on the numbers given. Probability of profit is listed as 0.00 and expected value is $0.00 on a $300 max loss. Either the scoring engine couldn't price this thing or the credit is so thin it rounds to nothing — either way, I don't open trades where the EV field reads zero. A bull put spread's whole job is to collect a credit that's meaningfully priced against the tail; if I can't see the credit and the probability, I'm flying blind. TGT specifically has been a serial disappointer with guidance cuts and traffic problems, so 'bullish on TGT' isn't a thesis I'd take at face value without a real edge calculation. Worst case is losing the full $300, which is 1.1% of the $27.7K cash base. Survivable in isolation, sure. But I already have four positions on from yesterday with no P&L visibility yet — two bear call spreads (TMO, ASML), a put calendar on IWM, and a broken-wing fly on WMT. The WMT fly is a directionally bullish consumer retail bet already; adding TGT bull puts stacks correlated consumer-discretionary long-delta exposure on top of it. At the portfolio level this isn't diversification, it's doubling down on the same factor before I even know how the first bet is working. Confidence in the pass is high. I've passed 20 in a row and that's fine — selectivity is the job, and I'd rather wait for the existing book to show me something before adding a fifth name, especially one with broken scoring inputs and a correlated thesis to a position I already hold.
