Regime first: VIX at 18 and ticking up 3.7% on the week with SPY barely positive — that's a market quietly losing its grip on the low-vol grind it had coming out of the last FOMC. We're 14 days past FOMC and 35 days from the next, so we're in the no-man's-land where positioning matters more than catalysts. Today's tape is telling: defensives (XLU, XLRE) and financials leading the downside while XLK holds up. That's not a healthy bid — it's narrow leadership, the kind that precedes either a rotation or a broader drawdown. A bearish bias on QQQ isn't crazy here, but it's not screaming either. The bigger issue is the candidate itself. Probability of profit 0.00, EV $0.00, max loss $0.00, capital required $0.00 — that's not a trade ticket, that's a malformed scan. A put diagonal selling the June 695 and buying the July 710 should have a real debit, real risk, and a real P/L curve. Either the pricing pipeline failed or the structure as written is nonsensical. I don't trade off broken inputs, full stop. Worst case if I forced this open blind: a put diagonal where you're long the further-dated higher strike and short the nearer lower strike is typically a net debit with defined risk, but I'd be guessing at sizing. On a 30-DTE short leg with a July long leg, a sharp QQQ rally evaporates the long put's value faster than the short decays, and a gap down through 695 before June expiry leaves you short gamma into a moving target. Without real numbers I can't tell you if max loss is $200 or $1500. Unacceptable for a 1.1% portfolio that's already running four positions including a put_calendar on IWM and two bear_call_spreads — I'm already tilted bearish/short-vol-adjacent. Adding a fourth correlated bearish-volatility expression on QQQ would concentrate, not diversify. Confidence in the pass: 95. The portfolio is at 4 of 8 slots with meaningful bearish exposure already on, the data is broken, and even if the data were clean I'd want a wider berth from the existing book. Easy pass.
