Regime is mixed in a way that doesn't favor adding a neutral premium-seller here. VIX 18 and rising 3.8% over five days while SPY grinds higher and defensives (XLU, XLF, XLRE) get sold is a tape where institutional money is rotating, not relaxing. We're 35 days from FOMC with 44 DTE on this structure — that means the trade will live through the entire pre-FOMC vol build. Iron condors hate that path even when they ultimately win. The setup itself has no edge to discuss because the numbers say so directly: p_profit 0.25 and EV -$1.25. That's not a coin flip with positive carry — that's a structure where the market is pricing the wings inside the expected move and you're being paid almost nothing to take the tail. A proper iron condor in a high-IV regime should give me p_profit north of 0.60 and positive EV; getting 0.25 means either the strikes are too tight relative to ORCL's actual realized vol, or the credit is too thin, or both. ORCL has been a high-beta mover post-earnings cycles and the 179/198 body on a name that's been trending is asking to get run over on one side. Worst case is -$70.61, which is 0.24% of cash. Survivable in isolation — that's not the issue. The issue is that I already have six positions on, and four of them (TMO bear call, ASML bear call, MU bear call, MRK BWB put) are net short upside or short vol in some form. Adding another short-vol/neutral structure correlates into that book. If we get a tech squeeze or a vol crush rally, multiple positions bleed together. Strategy-level concentration matters more than ticker diversification, and this candidate adds nothing I don't already own in spirit. Confidence is high on the pass. Negative EV with sub-coin-flip probability is a trivial decline regardless of regime — I don't need to be clever here. The only reason to even write this up is to note that the screener surfaced it at all, which tells me to tighten my filter.
